Every house where love abides And
friendship is a guest, Is surely home, and home, sweet home
For there the heart can rest...

Richard Campen in Architecture
of the Western Reserve in featuring Winans House states: “No
more flamboyant expression of high Victorian design or more
exuberant use of the lathe and jigsaw can be found in Northeastern
Ohio.” Locals describe it as the “wedding cake
house” in reference to the inn’s structure and
ornate carvings found throughout. A weekend experience here
is just as delcious- layer upon layer of pampering and sweet
hospitality, cream of the crop accomodations, mixed with fine
company, and a dollop of history-combine to make a memorable
experience for all. |

Returning to
the inn after a night out and about, is certainly the grandest
finale- a dessert to be savored after the banquet of experiences
the surrounding area has to offer-rolling wine country, state
parks with covered bridges, and fine dining. Guests awaken
to the aroma of a gourmet breakfast served in an intimate
private dining room. James and Georgia are looking forward
to serving you! James and Georgia have hosted guests from
near and afar- from locals just needing a night away to individuals
from Asia and Europe desiring a unique escape in Northeast
Ohio’s countryside. Your inn keepers will certainly
ensure that Winans House is a place where friendship is guest,
a place indeed where the heart can rest. |

James and Georgia Drown,
marriage partners and business partners for nearly half a
century, are not only quintessential hosts, but dedicated
conservationists and restoration specialists. When Winans
House was opened as a Bed and Breakfast two years ago, it
was with the philosophy of creating a retreat where guests
can enjoy the company of that special someone with all the
comforts of home, in an elegant, private setting, much as
guests have been entertained here for the last two hundred
years. Guests will be in rooms once occupied by the Winans
family- former world travelers, state senators, veteran physicians
and well known philanthropists. They were also individuals
that frequently opened their doors to members of the community
as honored guests. James and Georgia sought to continue the
tradition. James an amateur historian and Georgia, a highly
successful floral designer are well suited to their current
posts as owners and operators of the Winans House Bed and
Breakfast. They describe their work as a lifelong commitment
and labor of love. |
